Road and railway infrastructur

Infrastructure sites require frequent maintenance and repair works and sometimes a necessity to exchange them occurs. It happens mainly because of the harmful influence of corrosion of steel used for reinforcement. Such sites loose their initial structural properties.

As a result of using deicing chemicals, bridges, maneuvering areas and car parks along with accompanying infrastructure are particularly exposed to corrosion.

By using composite bars, the effects of corrosion may be eliminated achieving at the same time economic benefits resulting from:

application of lesser concrete layer thickness. The durability of engineering structures is designed for a prolonged period of time. Cover thickness is significantly increased for this type of sites in order to protect them against corrosion. As an example, according to the approach “avoidance of danger” chapter 4 Principles of structural design (MC2010 fib) it is recommended to increase cover thickness by 30% for sites with prolonged designed life-time, no costs of maintenance, repair and rehabilitation during the designed life-time.
